Temporary Travel Document (TTD) for Sri Lankan Nationals who wish to Voluntarily Return to Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan nationals who are currently in the United Kingdom without valid immigration status (Visa) and who do not meet, or no longer meet, the legal requirements for entry, stay or residence in the United Kingdom may decide to return to Sri Lanka voluntarily, may apply for a Temporary Travel Document (TTD) from the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo through the Sri Lanka High Commission in London.

You may be eligible to apply for a TTD if you:

• Are a Sri Lankan citizen.
• Currently do not possess a valid Sri Lankan passport or a travel document.
• Are in the UK without valid immigration permission (Visa) or have already overstayed your visa.
• Intend to return to Sri Lanka voluntarily.

Required Documents

Applicants are requested to submit the followings:

• A completed TTD application form. (Available via Link - Link 1 , Link 2
• An official letter from Home Office Voluntary Returns division confirming that no applications are pending and no legal barriers to leave the United Kingdom.
• Original Sri Lanka Birth Certificate.
• Original or photocopies of expired Passports.
• Three current Passport size photographs (3.5 cm x 4.5 cm).
• Any additional documents requested by the High Commission to verify identity and nationality.

If you are returning to Sri Lanka through the UK Home Office Voluntary Returns Service (VRS), please contact the service before making your travel arrangements. The Voluntary Returns Service may assist to eligible applicants with travel arrangements and obtaining necessary documentation.

Processing

The Sri Lanka High Commission reviews every application on a case-by-case basis. To confirm an applicant’s identity and nationality, further documentation or an interview might be necessary prior to the issuance of TTD.

Once a fully completed application is submitted, expect a processing time of approximately five working days for the Travel Document (TTD) to be issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Sri Lanka.
