Police Clearance Certificate

Applicants who wish to obtain a Police Clearance Certificate from Sri Lanka may submit their applications to the High Commission of Sri Lanka in London

either in person or by post.

Submission by Post

Applicants applying by post should forward the following:

• Duly completed application form
• Postal Order for £20 (Police Clearance - £15 + Postal £5) made payable to “Sri Lanka High Commission "
• Letter indicating the reason for requesting the Police Clearance Certificate
• Self-addressed stamped envelope for return of the certificate, unless the applicant wishes to collect it personally

Submission in Person

Applicants submitting applications in person at the consular counter may pay the fee of £20 by cash, debit/credit card.

Supporting Documents

Applicants are required to submit the following documents together with the application:

Sri Lankans / Dual Citizens

• copy of the Sri Lankan Passport
• copy of the National Identity Card issued by the Department for Registration of Persons

Non-Sri Lankans / Non-Dual Citizens

• copy of the foreign passport

Processing Procedure

·       After submission, the application will be forwarded to the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Administration), Police Headquarters, Colombo 01, Sri Lanka,

        who will issue the Certificate of Clearance after verifying the applicant’s details with the relevant Police Stations in Sri Lanka. 

·       Processing times depend on verification by the relevant authorities in Sri Lanka. The High Commission is therefore unable to guarantee a specific time frame

       for the issuance of the Police Clearance Certificate. 

·       Alternatively, Sri Lankans residing abroad may use the online portal to apply for a police clearance certificate via- https://eservices.police.lk/ClearanceCertificate/home.action

Delivery / Collection

Upon receipt of the Police Clearance Certificate by the High Commission, the document will either be:

• Sent to the applicant by post; or
• Made available for collection from the Consular Division of the High Commission
