General Information
Foreign nationals travelling to Sri Lanka on official or diplomatic duties are required to obtain a Diplomatic or Official Visa prior to travelling to Sri Lanka,
irrespective of the intended duration of stay. Diplomatic and Official Visas are issued only after obtaining the necessary approval from the relevant
authorities in Sri Lanka.
Important
· Diplomatic and Official passport holders travelling to Sri Lanka for official purposes should not apply for a Tourist or Business ETA.
· Diplomatic and Official passport holders travelling for private or personal visits must follow the normal visa/ETA procedure applicable
to their nationality.
· Diplomatic and Official Visas issued for official purposes are generally granted free of charge (Gratis), subject to approval by the
Government of Sri Lanka.
Short-Term Diplomatic / Official Visa
(Visits up to 90 days)
Required Documents
1. Completed Diplomatic/Official Visa (ETA) Application Form. (Link.)
2. Original Note Verbale (Diplomatic Note) issued by:
· The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), or
· The relevant Embassy/High Commission, or
· An International Organization.
3. Passport valid for at least six (6) months from the intended date of arrival in Sri Lanka.
4. Two recent passport-size colour photographs.
5. Copy of UK Residence Permit (where applicable).
Processing Time
Normally 5–10 working days, subject to receipt of approval from the relevant authorities in Sri Lanka. Processing time may vary depending on the nature of the visit.
Long-Term Diplomatic / Official Visa
(Assignments exceeding 90 days)
Applicants assigned to Diplomatic Missions, International Organizations or other official institutions in Sri Lanka should submit:
1. Entry Visa Application (Form B). [Link]
2. Annex II – Application for. [Link] Employment/Assignment at Diplomatic Missions.
3. Original Note Verbale.
4. Passport valid for at least six (6) months.
5. Two recent passport-size photographs.
6. Copy of UK Residence Permit (where applicable).
Processing of long-term visas is subject to prior approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism and the Department of Immigration & Emigration of Sri Lanka.
